How is the Overall Score Calculated?
The IELTS Overall Band Score is calculated by taking the average of the total scores of the four component tests.
The score for each component is equally weighted. The overall band score is calculated by taking the average of the four component scores (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking) and rounding to the nearest whole or half band.
iRounding Rules
- Average ends in .25 → Round up to next half band
(e.g. 6.25 becomes 6.5) - Average ends in .75 → Round up to next whole band
(e.g. 6.75 becomes 7.0) - Difference below .25 or .75 → Round down
